Birthday Parties at the Erie Zoo

The Erie Zoo has a variety of options available for birthday parties. Party packages are held March–November. Parties last 2 hours long and are located in the Children's Zoo Adventure Center Party Room (across from the carousel).

Birthday Parties Include:

  • A party host to help guide you through your party.
  • Admission to the Zoo for everyone attending the party.
  • 2 hours to use our decorated party room.
  • Up close animal presentation with three animal ambassadors.
  • Treat bag for each child with 4 items in each bag.
  • Plates, napkins, silverware and tablecloths.
  • One carousel ride for guests.
  • Pizza:
    • 2 or 3 included. Extra pizzas $12 each – max pizza total per party is 4
    • Any extra pizzas that need to be ordered must be ordered 2 weeks prior to party
    • Outside food, including pizza may be brought into the zoo.
  • Beverages are provided (juice and pop).
  • Special gift from the zoo for the birthday child

Booking Information

  • Parties are on a first-come, first-serve basis and require a full payment when the party is booked.
  • The parties are very popular and typically book several months in advance.

Party Room Pricing

Full payment is due when the party is scheduled (payment includes a $50 non-refundable deposit). Any extra charges incurred during the party are due that day.

Option 1: Small Party Package
(20 people or less)

  • Total people includes: all children 2 & up and adults
  • Birthday child and one parent are free with the purchase of a party package
  • Weekends 11:00am-1pm or 2:30-4:30 PM
  • ZooBoo Event parties are available from 6:00-8:00pm
  • Member: $200/ 2 hours for 20 people
  • Non-Member: $240/ 2 hours for 20 people
  • 2 Pizzas Included (16 kid sized slices each): 1 cheese, 1 pepperoni

Option 2: Large Party Package
(30 people or less)

  • Total people includes: all children 2 and up and adults
  • Birthday child and one parent are free with the purchase of a party package
  • Weekends 11:00am-1pm or 2:30-4:30 PM
  • ZooBoo Event parties are available from 6:00-8:00pm
  • Member: $300/ 2 hours for 30 people
  • Non-Member: $340/ 2 hours for 30 people
  • 3 Pizzas Included (16 kid sized slices each): 1 cheese, 2 pepperoni

Extra Charges

  • Additional Pizzas: $12 each (must be ordered 14 days in advance if not added to party when booked; max of 4 pizzas total for each party).
  • More than 1 Birthday Child: $10 each additional
  • Additional People – (This will be due the day of the party):
    • Members: $10 per person
    • Non-Members: $12 per person

Reminders

  • Straws, glassware and piñatas are not permitted for the safety of the animals.
  • A refrigerator and freezer are located in the party room for your convenience. During your party hours only.
  • Decorations are not recommended and cannot be hung on walls. Our room is painted to look like a rainforest!

FAQs for Options 1 & 2

What do I need to bring?

The party hostess will provide everything you need to celebrate a birthday, except the cake, ice cream and candles if desired.  We use paper plates for the pizza and the cake.  We have a pizza cutter, ice cream scoop, cake knife and a lighter for the candles. All the tables are covered in a brown tablecloth to match our rainforest theme. We provide the silverware and cups as well.

What time may I arrive?

Please plan to arrive no earlier than 30 minutes before your scheduled party.  Guests can arrive at the start of the party time.

What if it rains?

Parties are held rain or shine, so please plan accordingly. The parties are held inside; however we do walk to the carousel building.

How long does the party last and what do we do?

The Birthday Parties last 2 hours. You will need to be prompt exiting the party room at the end of your reserved time.  The first 15 minutes are for guests to arrive. Then the group has pizza followed by a carousel ride. Then we have our animal visitors arrive. Next is cake and then presents. The group is free to walk around and enjoy the Zoo before or after the party during normal zoo operational hours.  Make sure you take all of your belongings to your vehicle upon leaving the party room. You cannot leave items in the party room before or after your party time.

Is there a minimum or maximum number of guests?

Small parties are designed for 20 people or less. Large parties are designed for 30 people or less.  We ask that your entire party (including adults that stay) does not exceed the party size. However if it does you will be charged a per person fee for any person over your allowable party size.  The party room gets crowded very easily. A crowded room can cause the party to become uncomfortable for all participants. The room cannot exceed 35 people due to safety standards.

What comes to the party during the animal presentation and how many?

The animals used for the birthday parties are education animals that are not on exhibit.  Three animals will visit the party room.  Some examples are rabbit, chinchilla, hedgehog, ferret, guinea pig, turtle, etc.

Can I change my party package to accommodate my growing number of party attendees?

Party Package size can be increased up to 1 week prior to the party.

May I bring extra food?

You may bring in outside food. You are more than welcome to bring in your own pizza as well.

Where should I direct my guests?

Guests should be directed to enter through the front admission gate.  They need to tell the gate attendant they are here for a birthday party.  They should follow through the Zoo grounds to the Children’s Zoo Bridge (near Monkey Island).  At the end of the bridge, they should take a left and walk into the party room.  The room is attached to the Adventure Center across from the Carousel.  Access through the zoos back gate is not available.

Do we have to do a program during our visit?

No. Programs are not required. You are more than welcome to just explore the zoo at your own leisure.

Special Request Birthday Party Pricing

Off-Season Parties are available only from December 1-February 28th when the zoo is closed. Evening Parties are available upon request. Full payment is due when party is scheduled.
