Erie Zoo Receives RACP Grant

Posted on October 27th, 2022 at 9:00 AM

The Erie Zoo is excited to announce that they have been selected as a recipient for a $3 million grant from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP). The RACP grant sees applicants from across the state of Pennsylvania, and the Erie Zoo was one of three selected in Erie County to receive funding.

The $3 million RACP grant requires an additional $3 million match in funding and will support the construction of a brand new veterinary center for the zoo. This center will create a stand-alone space for all of the zoo’s veterinary needs (which are currently spaced throughout the campus). It is expected to include features such as quarantine, isolation, and treatment areas as well as be equipped with advanced, top-level imaging and surgical suites. This project is expected to create 20 full-time jobs during the construction phase and retain 4 full-time jobs at the zoo after completion.

The Erie Zoo has been the recipient of three other RACP grants in the past that have provided the funding for the Wild Asia (1998), Flo Fabrizio Ice Center (2018), and North American River Otter Exhibit Project (awarded 2020, projected opening 2023).
