ERIE ZOO REVEALS NEWLY RESTORED FRONT GATE
[Erie-PA]— The Erie Zoo is excited to announce the grand reveal of its newly renovated front entrance gate, a project that honors both the past and the future of Erie’s beloved zoo. This significant upgrade features beautifully restored mosaics, an impressive new archway, and modern steel gates, which openly welcomes visitors upon arrival.
The original mosaics, created and installed by local artist Don Larson in the 1970s, have been meticulously repaired and reinstalled by talented local artist Alex Strasser. Strasser also contributed her artistic expertise by designing the artwork for the new arch that proudly stands over the gate.
Ben Davis of Gene Davis Sales & Service skillfully fabricated and installed the arch, adding a touch of modern craftsmanship to the entrance. The project was further supported by architectural work from David Brennan, Considine & Biebel & Company, and Northwest Restoration.
This remarkable transformation was made possible by a generous gift in memory of John Masterson, a cherished former zoo employee. His legacy will now live on through the welcoming front gate, inviting generations of visitors to enjoy the wonders of the Erie Zoo.
"We are thrilled to unveil the new front gate, which beautifully combines our zoo's rich history with a fresh, modern touch," said Roo Kojancie, CEO of the Erie Zoo. "We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to this transformation."
The Erie Zoo welcomes guests to visit the beautifully enhanced entrance in honor of John Masterson. The zoo is open daily from 10am – 5pm.
