“For the past century, the Erie Zoo has provided an accessible, educational, and intimate encounter with animals and nature. Our animals and grounds are a unique and beautiful cornerstone of Erie life,” said Erie Zoo CEO Roo Kojancie. “As we commemorate this historic year, we’re inviting everyone to be a part of the celebration with special events and programs that will create new memories while honoring the zoo’s legacy.”

The Erie Zoo centennial year will feature events, opportunities to share memories, and exciting new ways to invest in the zoo’s future. Kicking off these celebrations is the sold-out Lions Tigers and Beers event on October 5th, with additional exciting off-season events to be announced soon.

“A beloved community asset and regional visitor draw, the Erie Zoo continuously serves as the heart and soul of our Erie community,” said Erie Zoo Board Chair Jeffrey Beach. “Our team is working toward an unforgettable centennial celebration while staying on track to reapply for AZA accreditation.”

In 2024, the Erie Zoo updated multiple exhibits, including the recently unveiled state-of-the-art otter exhibit. The otter habitat was expanded to three times its original size and features new training and care space, providing a more enriching environment for the otters. These enhancements are designed to improve the animals' well-being while offering visitors a more engaging and immersive experience.
